VETS-IN-THE-WILD
South Africa's private wildlife reserves play a vital role in the conservation of the country's extraordinary biodiversity, protecting vast areas of habitat and supporting some of the world's most iconic wildlife species. Maintaining healthy wildlife populations in these environments requires specialised veterinary knowledge, wildlife management, disease control and carefully planned interventions such as capture and translocation.
Vets-in-the-Wild expeditions take veterinary students beyond the classroom and into the field. Travel through the wildlife regions of northern and eastern South Africa and gain first-hand insight into the diverse challenges of wildlife veterinary practice. Meet experienced wildlife veterinarians and conservation professionals working in different environments, and discover how veterinary science contributes to the health, management and long-term conservation of wildlife.
Rather than focusing on wildlife medicine from a stationary or purely academic perspective, EcoLife takes you to where the work happens. Through practical experiences, expert-led activities and exposure to active conservation projects, you will develop a broader understanding of the relationship between veterinary medicine, wildlife management, conservation and communities.
We offer a 2-week and 3-week programme.
